Dahil sa Panlalait ng Malacanang Press Corps, mga Bloggers Nagsalita Na!

Blogger Sass Rogando Sassot slams Pia Ranada of Rappler, he said "Ang kapal ni Pia Ranada i-raise ang "quality control" sa mga bloggers, eh ikaw nga ateng di mo alam ang meaning ng SPO4. KAPAL NG FEZ! It looks like Philippine mainstream media is against extending freedom of expression to EVERYONE.

If I'm going to get accreditation, I will only cover foreign policy related Presidential events. Now, I want Pia Ranada Robles and any member of the Malacañang Press Corps to prove to me that their knowledge and understanding of international relations and foreign policy is on par with mine. I'm just a blogger, and they are "journalists." Magkaalaman na. - Sassot said.

The Social Media policy of Malacańang is simply DEMOCRATIZING access to presidential events by allowing non-traditional media with a wide reach to cover them. Some members of traditional media are against this, their reasons are all hallmarks of ELITISM. Suddenly, the so-called democracy defenders are against democracy. Why? BECAUSE IT DIMINISHES THEIR POWER.

Dear Joseph Morong: The quote you attributed to Asec. Kris Ablan is what we call GOTCHA JOURNALISM. It's a vile form of interviewing technique that deliberately solicits an answer from your subject that would be used against him to make him look like stupid. You asked Ablan a question: "If personalities such as comedienne Ethel Booba or social media activist Juana Change may be assured of acccreditation"

Selecting Ethel Booba and Juana Change as your examples has a malicious intent. Obviously, Ablan has to respond to your specific question and should answer in the affirmative because the social media policy developed by Malacañang is actually aligned with the international standards on this issue. Instead of asking SUBSTANTIVE questions, like asking the LEGAL basis of such policy, you opted for a question that puts you on a par with Madam Claudia.

So what if Ethel Booba or Juana Change be given that access? I'm sure Ethel Booba is MORE ENGAGING and has a reach more than all of you and thus would do a better job in making the public aware of whatever presidential event she would like to cover.

So mainstream media would like the government to police the freedom of expression of bloggers. So what gave you, Philippine mainstream media, the RIGHT to police who could stand beside you to cover an event? Enlighten us.

To Malacañang Press Corps, "You are so full of yourselves. Here's the dossier prepared by Article 19, the international non-government organization fighting for freedom of expression worldwide. Agnes Callamard was one of their former Executive Directors. It's funny that your position on bloggers is at odds with theirs. You are marching on the wrong side of history."

Key arguments of Article 19:

elevant legal standards should reflect the fact that ‘journalism’ consists of disseminating information and ideas to the public by any means of communication. As such, it is an activity which can be exercised by anyone.
The conditions for obtaining a press card should be based on the overall public interest and not on considerations such as affiliation with a professional association or degree in journalism.
Bloggers should not be forced to abide by the ethical codes or codes of conduct developed by traditional media and should not be coerced or given an incentive to join self-regulatory bodies for traditional media
ARTICLE 19 believes that accreditation schemes should not be the sole preserve of professional journalists but should also be available for bloggers when they are engaged in the gathering and dissemination of information to the public.

Mainstream media can tolerate the decriminalization of shabu but not the profanity of bloggers? Tsk! tsk! tsk!
