If you are one of the Filipino who's wondering why COMELEC Chairman Andy Bautista is not resigning in his post in COMELEC despite the calling for him to leave the office or resign in his post, I think this article is for you.
The Comelec Commissioners released a resolution requesting Bautista to file a leave or resign. In a press briefing Thursday, they said, "It is our consensus that Bautista can no longer effectively lead the Commission."
The commissioners released a statement urging Bautista to go on leave or resign "for his own sake, for the sake of his career, and, most importantly, for the sake of his family particularly his four innocent children."
The statement is signed by Commissioners Christian Robert S. Lim, Al A. Parreño, Luie Tito G. Guia, Arthur D. Lim, MA. Rowena Amelia V. Guanzon, and Sheriff M. Abas.
The problem, however, is that Bautista cannot possibly do either. Why?
If Bautista files a leave of absence, the remaining commissioners can do whatever they want without Andy's meddling: they can file a resolution that will finally ban Smartmatic from Philippine soil, or give some attention to Nelly Villafuerte's 2013 complaint against Leni Robredo, or even conduct an internal investigation on Andy Bautista's corruption and his alleged connivance with Divina Law.
If Bautista resigns, then he will lose his partial immunity from suit, exposing him to a barrage of graft cases that he will have to battle for the rest of his life.
