Mitchel Urbano a 35-year old man was arrested for allegedly carrying and selling “shabu” or methamphetamine. He was found selling the illegal drug in front of a small eatery at Barangay 24 in San Nicolas, Ilocos Norte. He was arrested at around 2pm on Wednesday, July 19, 2017
Mitchel Urbano was caught during a buy-bust operation where he was found in possession of one small sachet of “shabu.” The police also found 4 more packets of the drug in his possession. 2 sachets were found in his motorcycle and the other 2 were found inside a burger. The suspect was carrying the shabu-filled burger.
The suspect complained about the inhumane treatment he suffered at the hands of the police. He said that he was unable to open his eyes because they became swollen from the beatings he received at the hands of the police who caught him. Urbano says they stomped on his entire body, causing bruising and swelling. Urbano said:
SPO1 Jeniffer Tacla, chief investigator of the San Nicolas Police Station, said:
Noong nagpakilala itong police poseur-buyer na siya ay pulis, tumakbo itong suspek. So, ‘yung pagtakbo niya, natumba, natambli-tumbling. Tinangka niyang tumakas.
When questioned about Urbano’s claims that the police planted the evidence, they claimed that it was normal for criminals to say such things. The police say that that it’s a common excuse used by many criminals caught in the act. The police also said that Urbano was a known former drug user who surrendered but went back to his illicit ways.
Urbano’s family is planning to file charges against the police who seemingly utilized excessive force during his apprehension.
